HIGH STREET CLOSURE

The west end of Croydon High Street will be closed for several months as repair work is carried out to make the road safe. The road was made subject to an Emergency Closure this week after tests revealed the extent of the damage caused by the badger tunnels. In places the surface is only 10 centimetres ( 4 inches ) thick above a void several metres in size - big enough to take a car ! The work cannot commence until the current breeding season is over, and advice is being sought by Cambs County Council from Natural England on what to do with the sets. Current plans are to move the badgers ( which are protected by law ) by putting "one way doors" over the 22 entrances so that once out they cannot return. If anyone wants more details, the contact is Michael Oakman at CCC ( Area Manager Maintenance ) on 08450455212. It is a criminal offence to move the closure bollards as this could cause accidents. More permanent barriers will be erected soon.
